Ruka is for families who like their days to have momentum. The ski season is one of the longest in Finland, and when the snow finally softens, the same fells turn to biking, paddling and white-water rafting. A short drive away, Oulanka National Park and the famous Karhunkierros Trail lead through river valleys, past rapids and across swaying suspension bridges. The village keeps dinner and services close, Kuusamo Airport is about half an hour away, and a well-placed villa gives everyone room to rest between the adventures.
